Belle Scarf

Nedra at Cactus Needle did a post on the Belle scarf. I've been wanting to give this a try ever since. I needed a "K" crochet hook for this project and I could not find my hooks. I have many of them. A trip to JoAnn's today armed with coupons got me this hook. I LOVE IT!!

This is the packaging from the hook. It is a Susan Bates hook with a bamboo handle. I have carpal tunnel and so I have to be careful not to flare it up. This hook is so user friendly that it is on my list of things to share. Go out and get one. You will love it!! The link for the scarf on Nedra's blog is: http://cactus-needle.blogspot.com/2010/11/belle-scarf.html and have a very Happy New Year!!

A Savior is born....

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace...May you find joy not in presents, but in His presence.

Merry Christmas!!

This Christmas wall hanging was taken from Nancy Halverson's Christmas book, Tidings. My sister, Rose, and I made this. It involves some applique, embroidery and sewing on the specialty buttons. This was a really fun project and will be enjoyed for many more Christmases. So to all, I wish you a very Merry Christmas!!

More hats...

Made this hat out of the original fat quarters purchased for the hat. This hat only takes 2 fat quarters to make. Now the pattern calls for interfacing on the brim, however, in my opinion...it needs more stability in the band and brim.

This version I made out of Jackson's old levi's. I added fusible fleece to the band and brim and I like it much better. What a fun project to sew and also to wear...

Quick Gift Idea...

On this website http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/QuarterlyChallenge/ZipItBag.pdf is a fun make up bag that you can make out of the beautiful laminated fabrics. A quarter yard will yield 2-3 make-up bags depending on whether or not you need to fussy cut the print. Here are a few that I have done up for gifts...Give it a try and make a few!!

Jack and Jill

Just finished making this little Christmas gift for granddaughter, Hailee. She is wild about zebra. Hope she likes it!!
The pattern: Jack and Jill by Izzy and Ivy designs. The hat went together smoothly. I haven't made very many hats, so it took me some figuring out. Hope it fits cause I had to guesstimate the size. By the way, sizes from itty bitty to XXL are in this pattern so it is a good value and has both boy and girl versions!!

Run, run as fast as you can...

Should you wish to whip up a couple of these for your holiday giving, it is a simple 9 patch block. Squares are cut at 3". For the arms, I used 1 1/2" squares sewn on the diagonal on the corners, trimmed and flipped like you would do the flying geese. Ric rac was applied before sewing the blocks together. Enjoy!!
