Vintage dishtowels...imagine shopping from one's own cedar chest

Since I am a product of the 1960's, these dishtowels could be considered vintage. When I was a young girl, my mother gave all my sisters and I opportunities to learn how to sew, embroider, cook, clean, and the list goes on. There are some of you out there that will remember the ARTEX paints and TRI-CHEM paints and we painted on every surface imaginable and made quilt blocks, and dishtowels, and home decorator objects. Talk about memory lane and how the painting is so obsolete now. Hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I did uncovering them in my cedar chest. I want you to know that when my eyes were in tip top shape, I could take the tiniest of stitches. Now, well they are somewhat bigger....

What a good mother you had to introduce you to so many wonderful arts!

Wow! You really have some cute dishtowels. Mine are so ugly I won't even use them. They are fabric vegetables with machine satin stitching around the edges. I can't believe that I once thought that they were attractive in any way, shape or form. I do have some artex flowers on a quilt I did before I got married. It is funny that this particular craft is now obsolete and considered antique-ish.

Oh how fun! I always embroidered pillow cases and towels with my grandma. I still have a few of them too!

Hey, I did tons of painting with tri-chem paints. I only have one raggedy set of pillowcases left that I painted. That was a pretty fun craft for kids and teens, I wonder why it died out?

Love all your vintage towels. I think the hand sewn one are really precious. I remember my mom painted a tablecloth, but it was not as cute as your towels. You really did a beautiful job, especially for a child.

You have such a good mom. I did take an ARTEX for 4-H.

You even made beautiful things when you were young!!!! I think I need to go dig through my cedar chest and see what I find. Nothing as wonderful as yours!!
Have a great day
Sandra
